    Government of Canada Invests in Innovation and Marketing for Maple Syrup Producers

    SAINT-NORBERT-D'ARTHABASKA, QUEBEC- Canadian maple syrup producers will benefit from important investments in marketing and research aimed at improving the competitiveness of the sector. The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture), announced today up to $4.3 million in funding to support the Canadian maple syrup industry's efforts to create new opportunities for this pure, quality product.

    Government of Canada Supports Maple Syrup Producers

    The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister of State (Agriculture) will be in St-Norbert d'Athabaska, Quebec on Tuesday, August 17 to announce investments that will benefit maple syrup producers.

    Vandals hit Elk Grove High on first day of classes with Maple Syrup

    As students arrived on campus for the the first day of classes, maintenance crews cleaned up toilet paper, maple syrup and spray-painted symbols at Elk Grove High School Monday morning. Elk Grove Unified District spokeswoman Liz Grassquit said someone spray painted walls and floors as well as poured maple syrup on locks either overnight or sometime during the weekend.

    Maple syrup gets health tick

    There is a theory held by young mothers that kids will eat most things if maple syrup is added. This is likely to bring on a rush of tut-tuts from the food police but a research scientist at Rhode Island University has confirmed that it is a healthy choice as a food sweetener. It can now be classed as a "functional health food" thanks to significant amounts of anti-oxidant compounds.  No additives, no extras, and although it has been declared good for us, use in moderation, as always.

    Pennsylvania BBQ Sauce

    Checkout our new Recipe: Pennsylvania BBQ Sauce.  I was preparing to barbecue this weekend at our weekend home in Pennsylvania and suddenly I had a yen for a sweet, tangy BBQ chicken. I rooted through the cupboards and came up with this concoction…not all that different from many homemade recipes but I was really happy with the results.  I even spread some on the hamburgers and that worked nicely too.  I’m going to make this one again this weekend.

    United States USDA Maple Syrup Production Report 2010

    United States maple syrup production in 2010 totaled 1.96 million gallons, down 19 percent from the revised 2009 total. The number of taps is estimated at 9.27 million, 3 percent above the 2009 revised total of 8.98 million. Yield per tap is estimated to be 0.211 gallons, down 21 percent from the previous season’s revised yield.

    A Draining Winter For Connecticut Maple Syrup Producers

    Crop Was Down 31 Percent In State Because Weather Didn't Cooperate. And she won the winter of 2010, when maple syrup producers across the state saw their liquid gold production fall by 31 percent from last year and 53 percent from 2008. Mother Nature was also victorious nationwide, as producers from Vermont to Michigan saw production drop nearly 20 percent from 2009 levels.

    Demi Moore has ended her 10-day maple syrup diet in 4 days only and has moved on to a 21-day Clean Program, developed by cardiologist Dr. Alejandro Junger. The ‘Ghost’ star had vowed to follow the plan with her hubbie, Ashton Kutcher, by sipping nothing but the punishing brew, which also contains cayenne pepper and lemon juice, according to the Daily Mail.
